Meghalaya Honeymoon Horror: Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Husband Murdered in Cold Blood

Posted on June 9, 2025

What began as a romantic getaway quickly turned into a Meghalaya honeymoon horror. It became one of India’s most chilling recent murder cases. Newlyweds Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi, who had tied the knot just days earlier, traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. On 3rd June, authorities discovered Raja’s body near a gorge in Sohra (Cherrapunjee). This place is better known for its scenic beauty than scandal.

The Alleged Murder and Police Investigation

The Meghalaya Police named Sonam Raghuvanshi and three men Vicky Thakur, Anand, and Akash as accused in Raja’s suspected murder.

Investigators allege that Sonam conspired with the men to eliminate her husband. A key angle being probed is Sonam’s alleged relationship with a former employee, Raj Kushwaha, potentially indicating motive.

• Raja’s scooter was found near the crime scene.

• Phone records and forensic clues are central to building the timeline.

• One suspect claimed Sonam offered ₹30,000 for the murder, as per preliminary reports.

The investigation remains ongoing, with all accused currently in custody.

Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Statement

Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, instead of Meghalaya. She maintains her innocence, calling the allegations false, and has demanded a fair trial and deeper probe.

Family Speaks: Conflicting Emotions and Demands for Justice

In an emotional interview, Raja’s mother said:

“I don’t know who all are involved. It could be Sonam or those three others. If she has killed my son, she should get the death penalty.”

Her raw pain and demand for justice are starkly visible.

Sonam’s father strongly defended her and criticized the ongoing process:

“My daughter is 100 per cent innocent. We demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case. The Meghalaya police are giving false statements about my daughter because the state government’s image is getting tarnished due to Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder case.”

This highlights his insistence on fairness and claim of political influence affecting the case.

Raja’s brother Vipin added:

“Sonam made a video call to her brother Govind late last night. After this, we called the Uttar Pradesh police and informed them about Sonam being in their state. Until the alleged contract killers are confronted with Sonam, we cannot believe that she had hired them to kill her husband. If Sonam is found guilty in the murder of her husband, then she should get the harshest punishment.”

The Emotional Toll: Beyond Headlines

Behind every headline lies a shattered family:

• Raja’s sudden and brutal death has devastated his loved ones.

• Sonam’s family stands firm, believing in her innocence.

• Both families are locked in a tragic drama of grief, suspicions, and legal battles—an indictment of the fragility of trust.

The Dark Side of Marital Crimes in India

Experts link spousal murders to:

• Infidelity

• Property or insurance disputes

• Emotional abuse and psychological stress

• Financial pressure

The Sonam-Raja case fits a broader and disturbing pattern.
